What exactly is this green film? Is it dangerous and is it preventable?
Clean it with Bleach, and rinse well. Algea grows when the PH level and the alkalinity level are perfect for growth.
Plan to clean out your Brita (including the filter holder) regularly to prevent this happening again.
before lots of use. This water catcher device would work best with CLEAN air to start with. Britta water container was given to me used, so I will ...
I clean it often, but after a few days the container starts to turn light green inside. I clean it and clean it, but it still returns. Does anyone know what I should do to prevent this from happening anymore?
If you keep the container somehwere where it isn't dark, the green is probably algae. Try keeping it in the dark and see what happens. Algae needs light to form.
sometimes , even after the filter, the water's a bit murky. why does it do this? has this happened to you? and it's not like it was time to change the filter, i do that every so often.
especially today! ew, the water was so gross i couldnt drink it.
how often do you clean the Brita water.. container? i don't know what to call it.
i have this one

Normally when you first change the filter you get that. It is just the charcoal in it. Don't worry though, it is actually good for us. If you don't let water run through it long enough when you change it that can happen.
Also Brita and Pur a very simple and basic filters. They really only do very little to improve taste and smell. They don't do all that much for clarity and health related contaminates.
I would suggest moving up to a purification system. The highest one available is eSpring. Only distilleries can get water cleaner. By year two it actually costs less per gallon than a Brita does anyhow.
Are they from the same company? And i tried the brita filter container, and it got dirty in 2 days or less, i had to clean it out with soap and water because it had these little things floating in it. Is the PUR water container a better buy?
those little black powder particles were from the filter. The filter is a charcoal filter and it's perfectly safe to drink. They actually give charcoal to poison patients to help them clean out their system. It just comes out in your fecal matter.
Two of my friends have a betta fish in a fish bowl without a filter.I can't have a filter because of many reasons, and the only pet I can have now is a fish.My friends say that their bettas are perfectly happy without a filter, one is living now for a few years.
I can clean the fish bowl(yeah,I will keep my bettas in a fish bowl-it will not be too small for the bettas,I will make sure of it)even 3 times a week,it is no problem.
Also, one of my friends filter the water for their bettas in a kettle(I have a new Brita one)and leave the water to cool down and use it for the fish, and the other one leaves the tap-water for one day(without the fish,in another container)for the chlorine(and all the "bad" things in tapwater)to evaporate-how should I do it and can I keep a betta fish without a filter in a medium-sized fish bowl?
EDIT: I will have only ONE male betta in the fish bowl.Should I leave the water to evaporate or to the kettle thing?
If you are manually doing the work of the filter ( and you actually DO the work) then there shouldn't be a problem. As long as you just have the single betta in there.
Skimp on the work and you could find yourself treating things like fin rot.
Edit- Sorry I should have answered the water question earlier.
To answer it depends on what your water supplier uses to kill bacteria. It's quite easy to contact their customer service dept. to find out.
If it's just chlorine then standing the water for a few days should allow it to evaporate. If they use chloramines then standing the water will not work as chloramine is far more stable.
Boiling should in theory remove chlorine as it has a lower evaporation point but again it's not effective removing chloramine.
Neither boiling nor standing water will remove other possible contaminants like heavy metals
Any pet dept or fish store will sell additives that will instantly neutralize chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals. (it only costs a couple of bucks for a bottle and it will last a long time). The only thing you need to do when using additives is make sure the fresh water is the same temperature as the water you are replacing.
Hope that helps.
WNYC - The Leonard Lopate Show: Please Explain: BPA (February 05 ...
Bisphenol-A, known as BPA, is an important building block of several plastics and plastic additives. Concern about the use of BPA in consumer products has been growing, and questions about its safety and its effect of human health have led some retailers to remove products made of it from their shelves; some states, cities, and even countries have even banned its use altogether. On today’s edition of Please Explain, we’ll look into what the studies of BPA show, why the scientific community continues to be divided over exactly what levels of BPA are harmful to human health, and how the Food and Drug Administration has handled consumer concern over BPA. We’ll speak with
Hi – I order frequently here at work from nearby Chinese place, partly b/c food is good but also because they have great containers: figure it’s safe to reuse them for storage in ‘fridge or cupboards but wondering about using them to heat stuff up – like soups. Bad move?

On Monday, August 7, 2006, I started a new role as an instructor for a sabbatical program that is, what I consider, the gold standard for how enterprises should educate and teach its employees how and why to use social, web 2.0 software. I know the date, because 4 days prior, I called off my engagement and showed up to one of my best friend’s wedding, without my fiance. My friend reminds me of this and the date on a regular basis. I share this only because it is a turning point in the history of my life, a crossroads of sorts, when I decided to deviate from everything I knew and thought I wanted.
Enter Steve .
Steve and I were the first set of instructors to support what has become the Sean and Don show – the creators and pioneers of the program. If there is one thing that stands out in my mind about Steve and my initial impression of him, it was his total state of ease. I guess when you’ve spent time as a high school teacher and a software manager at Blizzard , teaching the intel community how to collaborate and share knowledge virtually isn’t a difficult transition.
