my brita water filter where you put water in a container and the water drains to the bottom through a filter always leaks out these black particles. i believe they are meant to filter the water and come loose in the process my mom says its safe to drink but i highly doubt it. we use a top of line filter but this stuff just comes out of it. has anyone heard of this and is it dangerous?
The black particles are just activated charcoal. It's perfectly fine to injest them, as a matter of fact, it can aid your digestion.
You should change the filter every few months because the pores in the charcoal do become clogged and it doesn't taste as fresh. You should also change it out because bacteria and mildew can build up in the pitcher and filter. When you change the filter use that same time to rinse the pitcher with 2-3 drops of common bleach. Then rince once or twice.
Venus Fly Trap Cultivation
If you provide each of these three things in the proper way, you will have a healthy, happy little Venus Fly Trap as you see below in the photo. Please read the above articles in detail, but I will give a brief summary here of what a Venus Fly Trap needs.
Give them as much light as you can. Direct bright sunlight at least four hours a day is best. Water them with pure water, either distilled, rain water, or other water that has a low concentration of dissolved solids. Plant them in a proper mix of nutrient poor medium. Most people use peat, sphagnum moss, sand and perlite in some combination.
If possible, keep the ambient humidity high, though this is not critical. Venus Fly Traps can thrive in low humidity. Just be sure to keep their soil damp at all times when the humidity is low.
