how do you know when the active carbon in a water filter(for turtle tank) needs replacing?

I've got a baby red eared slider and I don't have a clue how often I need to replace the active carbon in the water filter.

Does anyone have a rough idea of how often it needs replacing or how to tell that it needs replacing?

ive read every two weeks but i think its a bunch of bull**** just another way for companies to make money. ive always changed mine every couple months or when ever the water starts getting cloudy and isnt staying clear for very long even after you have cleaned the filters out real good

Active carbon sanitization?

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good chemical to sanitize an active carbon bed? I have a water plant fitted with an active carbon bed after softeners. The carbon bed is becoming a source of bacteria growth and I would like to sanitize it. any suggestions? Heat is not possible due to the design of the plant.

water, oxygen, and carbon...?

water oxygen, and carbon dioxide move in and out of cells form area of high concentration to areas of low concentration. This movement is known as?

A. active transport
B. diffusion
C. endocytosis
D. tranformation

B. Diffusion.

Active transport requires the use of ATP. Normal diffusion happens without the use of ATP.
C and D are also completely different.

Is Global warming is more due to carbon dioxide or due to more energy consumption ?

On 18 june I asked why there is so much hype about carbon dioxide for global warming. I got aound 9 answers stressing the green house effect of carbon dioxide a major cause of global warming. I donot think so. The percentage of carbon dioxide in the atomosphere is only 0.03and is fairly constant. Its greenhouse effect is because it is IR active. Water vapour is also IR active and its percentage in the atmosphere is more trhan that of carbon dioxide. I think the answer to global warming lies in second law of thermodynamics which says when heat or for that matter any form of energy is converted to work a part of it is always lost to the sorrounding. As we consume more and more of energy a good part of it is lost to the sorrounding causing global warming. Burnig of fossil fuels causes environmental polution no doubt. But global warming is due to unrestrained industrial growth with greater and greater demand on energy consumption. There is no safe energy as regards global warming.

1) Carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere is only constant in the sense that it has been constantly rising:

2) Water vapor atmospheric concentrations are dependent on atmospheric temperatures. Yes water vapor accounts for 36-90% of the greenhouse effect, but if the Earth were cooler (i.e. we weren't causing global warming) then atmospheric water vapor concentrations would be lower. In other words, water vapor is an indicator and an amplifier of existing global warming.

3) Heat lost due to inefficiency from energy conversion is negligible in relation to the average global temperature increase.

Is sulfer in water dangerous to consume?

I am pretty sure there is sulfer in my water it is well water and it has a sulfer smell to it. I have been pokeing around the state web site to try finding guidelines and information but it has not been a very productive search. I have a inline whole house active carbon filter that should at least be filtering out particulate matter and such but there is still a sulfer smell in the water (like rotten eggs and is just WONDERFUL to smell when takeing a shower)
Would that water heater thing be in a boiler system? my house and hot water are provided by a oil fired boiler system.
Thank you home that is very informative. Not i just need to find a more permanent method of filtering it out. To think i thought living in MA was expensive before now i have to either constantly get bottled water or find a filtering system to take care of this.

i don't have enough points to thums down those other two but folks should not answer what they don't know!
there is no sulpher in water EVER! sulpher is insoluble in water so it doesn't happen.
second, there is not an anode rod in your boiler.
what you have is HYDROGEN SULPHIDE wich is a gas and it's under pressure in the water like CO2 in your pop. if you let it sit in an open container it will disipate.
your carbon filter will take it out for about a day depending on how much water you use.
it is a poisonous, flamable and corrosive gas and can kill you in the right concentrations.

Activated Carbon in HEPA Air Purifiers

Unless you’re an aquarium hobbyist or own a water purification system that uses carbon, the idea of activated carbon in HEPA air purifiers probably seems strange to you. Even if the concept isn’t completely foreign, most still don’t know exactly what activated carbon actually does.

How Is Active Carbon Used In HEPA Air Purifiers?

The first time most people encounter activated carbon is in choosing HEPA air purifiers. When most customers begin searching for air purifiers, generally due to allergies or asthma, they really have no idea how they work. As they are further educated about HEPA air purifiers, however, they will learn that odors and chemicals are the cause of the vast majority of their respiratory problems. Most quality HEPA air purifiers are designed to take care of not only allergens, but also the odors and chemicals in the air as well.
