back flush carbon water filter systems?

Carbon filters work by absorption.
Once the filter is full, it's dead and should be replaced.

Nanostructured Carbon Water Filter. It's 350 times higher adsorption effect than GAC \ Granular Activated Carbon.

i'm tired of buying bottles water, heard about water filter system the other day, went to water places to?

check it out. the under the sink called the reverse osmosis filters cost $499 include install and tax comes with the carbon filter which you have to unscrew and put in new filter every six months. and the other one costs $599 with install and tax. with this one , you throw away the whole filter unlike the carbon filter one. which one is better. also there the whole house filter which comes with water softener and the under the sink filter for $2000 with tax and install. any suggestions or opinions are appreciated. thanks.

why not just get a water filter that attaches to your faucet>? they are like 25=30 bucks at walmart or target. the one I bought today was $30 and it will filter 300 gallons of water before I have to replace it.

Is it difficult to make a homemade drinking water filter?

I only need a small water filter, counter top. I don't know why I can't make one, but it has been difficult to find information, instruction or ingredients.

I would think that carbon would be one ingredient. I want the water to taste better, and remove the bad minerals, and organisms. I don't want to remove the good minerals.

I live in a high rise that is about 60 years old, and it uses city water. The city is on the shore of Lake Michigan.

I really don't want to put a lot of money into buying a counter top water filter system, since I'm on Social Security, and have to cut costs as many ways as possible.

Some things I've learned in my searches, is that the carbon can become contaminated over time, and should be changed periodicly. I also learned that batting below the carbon can remove small pieces of the carbon. But, are there other ingredients I need, and how do I build it?

If your water is coming from lake michigan, then your water has allready been filtered by carbon or anthracite. The municipal city water filters are built like this: bottom layer is gravel, then the next layer is "green" sand. These both act as mechanical filters. The top layer is Carbon or anthracite. There is a bunch of other filtering and separation that takes place before it gets to the carbon. Anyway, the carbon beds act as a type of "polishing" filter before it is chemically treated and distributed to the users.

If your water tastes bad or has odor... your idea of a carbon filter may work but due to the age of your building... you may be experiencing some pipe issues. Either way, a home filter will help a little bit. Your best bet is to call your municipal water department and make a complaint. They can sample your water and also test for lead and other impurities.

Carbon filters do become spent through use and must be changed out periodically.

Having said all that... at the current cost of carbon and the other materials needed to make your homemade filter... go buy a Brita filter. You'll save a ton of money.

My 2 cents and 2 points.

What is the best brand of a reverse osmosis + carbon water filtration system?

I want the best brand that combines both technologies - RO and carbon filtering - into one apparatus.

Fart underwater and the bubbles will filter the water. Saves lots of money on fancy do-nothing filtration systems.

water's color is carbon-ish after water is filtered?

Does anyone know why the the supposed filtered water comes out from my undersink water purified system is visibly carbon color.

I recently changed the filters. The color does fade away if I flush a little more, but it has been behaving like this when the first time of a day in the morning I turn on the faucet, for a couple of days already.

Just leave the water running for a while to flush out the carbon powder that's getting into the water. I have a reverse osmosis system that has a carbon filter as the final stage. The instructions said that, when the system is first used, let the 5-gallon tank fill up and then drain it. It says to do that twice before using the water from the system to flush out all carbon deposits from the filter.

Give it time. It will stop putting out carbon eventually.

2. Clean the fine white sponge filter. This tends to get clogged up after a few days of operation, especially when there is a lot of waste passing through the filter, such as during set-up or after live rock is added. We recommend that you remove and clean the fine sponge every other day (rinse it in either RO water or saltwater) for as long as is necessary. Note: Red Sea released a small quantity of MAX aquariums in December 2006 / January 2007 with an incorrectly calibrated inlet for the MAX skimmer pump, which causes a lot of bubbles to be released into the aquarium. Most of these original inlets have already been replaced. Click here to see if your model has been fitted with the original or the modified inlet. If you do not have the modified inlet, contact your Red Sea supplier to receive one. The performance of protein skimmers is affected by small traces of chemicals in the water such as residues of silicon or glues from the production process (even smoking a cigarette next to a skimmer...

Water Utilities Lack Proper Filters For Weed-Killer « Interesting ...

Results from a federal drinking water monitoring program show that many public water companies are ineffective at removing a widely used weed-killer from their water supplies.

As the Huffington Post Investigative Fund reported earlier this week, the Environmental Protection Agency has failed to notify the public about data showing that the herbicide atrazine has been found at levels above the federal safety limit in drinking water in at least four states. Atrazine has been studied for its potential link to breast cancer, prostate cancer, and birth defects, and the EPA considers it to be a potential endocrine disruptor. It is banned in the European Union. But the EPA’s data also reveals that many public water filtration systems are not removing the herbicide. In many places, atrazine levels in untreated water sources such as rivers directly match the levels that come out of the tap.

A carbon filter with granular activated carbon — in other words, a giant Brita-like filter — should absorb all or most of the atrazine. But the EPA’s atrazine monitoring data shows that many water utilities in the Corn Belt do not use carbon filtration. Many use rapid sand filters instead. They are cheaper and last longer, but are unable to remove organic compounds such as PCBs, phthalates, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides such as atrazine.
