carbon water purification

water purification for home in philippines?

Building a home in the Philippines which is powered by solar power, has a 30m deep well, and rainwater collection system.

The water scares me to drink and I'm wondering the best way to purify it.

My first thought is boiling it or at least heating it

But also thinking ozone, activated carbon, sand filtration, UV light, etc, etc.

Water is being kept in a cistern and still working out all the plumbing...

Any ideas would be appreciated

kamusta? have your water sample check by a lab first, then decide on what purification system needed. Who knows you might not need those power consuming apparatus.
If you do need one, i can refer you a water mineral pot (water purifier -gravity type -and making it alkaline for good health)

Would my water purification idea work in a pinch? ?

So i was thinking in the shower this morning, and i came up with this idea. If you where stuck on an island, or other place with undrinkable water. And you charred a bunch of trees and collected the coal (carbon) and packed it into a can, Bamboo stick, or some other cylinder. Could you purify the water with this make shift carbon filter? And how long would it have to be to purify good. I thought like two feet.

yes your idea would make the water more potable; however, you would also need to filter it through a cloth also to remove the bits of carbon that would inevitably make it through and also to remove the remaining salt should you be trying to purify salt water

Is it better to get your milk delivered in glass or in plastic bottles?

Does anyone know which is better in terms of pollution, including carbon dioxide produced? Please consider the entire process, incluing producing the glass, washing the glass (including detergents and water purification), compared to producing the plastic, and recycling/disposing of both glass and plastic. Please also consider (if possible) that a glass milk bottle cannot be reused indefinitely (it may become chipped or be dropped and broken, or just get old).

I would like to know if it is justifiable to pay more for glass bottle milk delivery in terms of environmental friendliness.

Yes, it is justificable to pay more for glass bottle milk delivery. The glass bottle is definitely better than plastic bottle. If milk is carried in a plastic bottle, it dissolves very little amount of plastic which may be harmful to the human body ( every liquid can dissolve some part of a solid which is kept in it). For this reason, food items are never carried in plastic bags.
The glass bottle can be used over again and again and it does less environmental degradation than a plastic bottle. The glass bottle , if broken , can be sent for recycling. But a platis bottle shall have to be disposed off and nothig can be done to it.
If we view in terms of the glass bottle breaking, chipping off or breaking , then I suggest you to choose such bottles of good quality which would have less chance of breaking.
If a glass bottle is disposed off then it does not cause much harm as glass is very less reactive as compared. The plastic causes much environmental degradation. You may not be knowing that plastic may even cause thinning of the ozone layer due to free clorine liberated.
So , I advise you to use glass bottle milk delivery as both you and the environment would be safe.

Last but not the least, Plz select my answer as the best one.

  • Startup Manna Energy Seeks to Use Carbon Offsets to Provide ...

Manna Energy , a Houston, Texas-based water technology startup, is seeking to put carbon offsets to an innovative and life-saving use: providing water – sustainably – for Rwandan communities. In addition to addressing the country’s interrelated problems of water shortage, climate change, and non-sustainable development, Manna Energy is making the case for sustainable growth in developing countries.

Manna’s Rwanda Natural Energy Project is still in-progress. When complete, it will provide clean, drinkable water for more than 250,000 teachers, students, and staff at more than 400 secondary schools throughout Rwanda, GreenBiz.com reports . It will do so sustainably, replacing traditional water-purification techniques at those schools (typically, boiling water by burning wood, thus creating carbon emissions) with green water treatment plants, which will purify water using gravity filtration and solar power. In addition, the Project will also employ a workforce in Rwanda and utilize local materials, thereby supporting local economic growth and stability.
