I live in a van, and its affecting my health. I dont want to go on welfare. Im looking to purchase an acre of land with an insulated two bedroom cabin, or a large open space possibly with a loft, a wood stove, no agricultural run off but pure well water, near a forest. Any suggestions ?
(First answer! Wahoo!!)
From what I've seen, the maritimes are cheapest, with Newfoundland probably having the best "bang for buck" ratio.
A former colleague of mine bought a house in Newfoundland, to use as a summer getaway. It was so cheap, she purchased it using a credit card. It was $15,000. Another discussion told of a house (a proper house, mind you) having been purchased for $9,000. That's like crazy, unbelievably-low pricing to those of us who spend around a million dollars for our homes in Toronto.
A relative of mine lives in New Brunswick, and she occasionally sends me property listings for good deals there. I wouldn't say they're super-cheap, but they're far less expensive than the same property in Ontario (or, at least, southern Ontario). (My husband and I dabble in real estate...own a few properties...etc., etc.)
I see good deals in Nova Scotia, all the time.
90% of Canadians live within 200km of the U.S. border. 80% of Canadians live in cities. Obviously, the farther north and/or away from major centres you go, the cheaper property becomes.
Go to the multiple listing service to see what's currently available in different areas: http://www.mls.ca/splash.aspx Real estate agents are usually only familiar with their own area but, if you know where you'd like to go, it's a good idea to find an agent willing to work with you. (Obviously, the less expensive the property you're looking for, the less commission for the agent. So you have to find someone who won't brush you off.)
Good luck with your cabin search.
Taken in Danli, Honduras, this video shows some of the work that Pure Water for the World is doing to bring slow-sand water filters to provide ...
1. this is clearly a continuing, without end, brutalizing war of aggression, dehumanizing all participants. in the end, a total waste of people, energy, time and vital material.
2. an oil pipe line through afhganistan is of no particular value to the canadian people, would it not make ever so much more economic sense to secure our own resourses, or is this a trade off game we play with our insatiable southern neighbours, in hopes that they will not take all canada's oil and water, once it comes home to them what all this bush and company madness is all about.
3. peak oil is apon us, global polution and warming is a reality. what are we doing using up oil as quickly as we can
to do little more than create massive polution as quickly as we can, shattering lives and social infrastructures as we go?
...pure madness.
bring the children home, learn them to be responsible human beings by having them do things of real consequence and value. what are we doing in afganistan?
We'll never know the real story right now because:
1) Its Afghanistan and its a very very complicated place.
2) In war, truth is always hard to find. (in part because of the chaos of war but also on purpose because controlling information is an important part of military tactics)
3) Even if our decision makers knew the real truth of what is going on, which is doubtful, they still wouldn't tell us.
4) There are more than one or two story-lines happening at the same time.
So if you want a long factual based answer, you're not going to get one no matter who responds to your question.
If you want opinions, there's lots to go around.
If you want the truth, go there yourself and keep searching but even there it will be hard to find.
If you want my opinion, its simply because the Taliban were very very bad people and some of us nice Canadians are willing to risk our necks to help people get out from under their boot prints.

Heyy so I'm wondering if its possible to be allergic to either water or like substances that are added to it
Everytime I take a shower, I come out and feel like ripping my skin off. My shoulder blades, back, chest, arms, legs go all patchy white and some large red patches. So itchy
So I decided to a process of elimination thinking it might be the temperature of the water or the soaps/shampoos. I stopped using fragranted body soaps/shampoos but that didnt help, I tried doing a body scrub weekly, that didnt help. Then I tried have a pure cold shower and that didn't help. I also cut my showers down to like 8 minutes vs 30 that im usually in for, that did absolutely nothing. So im soo confused
Also, when I was in Africa last year [Uganda] we were in remote parts of that country and we had to have bucket showers. With water straight from a pump or even sometimes a river. Ice cold but felt good. NO ITCHING. It was so weird, I never thought I'd love taking a shower in Uganda or Canada haha but I do
So now I'm wondering, if its maybe a chemical allergy or something, cause by the chemicals/substances added to the water here to make it 'healthy'? I mean in Uganda they dont add anything, especially their river water lol
Its really unbearable. Im trying to get back into my dermatologist but in London right now the wait is anywhere from 8 to 36 months. Ridiculous, due to shortages of doctors
Any help would be appreciated! Also if it is maybe an allergy, what can i do so im not itchy?
thanks
hollyy
idk if this helps
but in my city we have really high levels of chlorine in our drinking water. to the point where everyone is strongly recommended to having a good water filter for drinking.
Yes there are people with water allergies!!!
Maybe you could try buying several gallon jugs of water (purified/distilled/spring) and wash with them in the bath tub. Or you could always try boiling the water that comes from your sink and bathe in it. I know its more work than just jumping in the shower but if it bothers you bad enough i think you should try it. Boiling the water will take out all the impurities, chlorine and chemicals the water is treated with.
Good Luck

wow. Looks like you had allot of thought to this. My thoughts to this. People have been drinking milk for positively centuries and millenia. If you like it, drink it. If you don't, don't.

Pure water in minutes
1. Dig a hole 1m x 30cm.
2. Dig a water bottle into the bottom of the hole.
3. Collect leaves from nearby trees.
4. Place leaves around water bottle in the hole.
5. Use a clear plastic sheet (like a clear tent ground sheet hint hint) to cover the hole.
6. Bury the edges of the plastic sheet.
7. Place a rock directly above the water bottle, on top of the plastic sheet.
This process works by allowing the sun to vaporize the water in the leaves. The water vapor then condenses on the plastic, and drips down to the lowest point (where the rock is), and water drips into your water bottle.
THIS ONLY WORKS ON SUNNY DAYS, AND WHEN EXPOSED TO DIRECT SUNLIGHT.
