i just bought a 10 gallon tank with a Aqua Tech Power Filter. if i put tap water in the tank with the filter, would the filter make the tap water safe for 24 baby guppies if it removes toxic ammonia and nitrite?

HI LG, the filter doesn't remove the harmful elements in the tap water nor does it remove ammonia & nitrite. What it does do is collect the loose debris that builds up in the tank that creates the harmful ammonia & nitrite & these can only be removed by regular partial water changes which dilute the toxins to low levels. This is why a liquid master test kit is essential-you can monitor the quality of your water frequently & water change accordingly.

The tap water will contain 1 & possibly 2 harmful chemicals-chlorine &/or chloramine. Only the chlorine will evaporate in 24 hours by letting the water stand or 'age'. If your local water company uses chloramine ageing is no use as it leaves an ammonia residue in the water which takes weeks to evaporate & this will kill your fish. Most water companies have a facility on their websites where you can enter your post/zip code & get a localised water quality report-then you can see if they use chlorine or chloramine.

If in doubt add dechlorinator anyway. I would also add that water left to age is best agitated with a small airpump & stone to keep it fresh-alternatively turn it over every few hours to introduce oxygen.

I just bought a new filter to fit 5-15 gallon fish tanks. The brand is Aqua Tech, my fish tank is a 10 gallon. The filter has no settings to change or switch anything.
Why is the water splashing, what can I do?

THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE MEANS PEOPLE!! If you look carefully there are some small splashes caught coming out of the top of the filter. She doesn't mean the waterfall. I think it could be a fault...I would take it back and ask the shop if possible but if that's not possible straight away then until then but a towel or something down so it won't soak your floor!!

I have a turtle tank and need a filter to work in a 20 gallon long tank that is not full (about 6-8 inches of water). Does anyone know if the Aqua Tech brand filter from walmart will work for this? Thanks!
I have read lots of reviews saying the walmart filters work better than the big brands.
Please, just answer the question I have asked and don't waste my time.

this will work in as little at 2 inches of water
it sits inside the tank
and walmart sells it for around $20 depending on size
the motor is very quite all you'll hear is the water spilling back into the tank

Note: since you are not filling up the tank to a full 20 gal, you can use a smaller filter and it will be cheaper

if you want to know how many gallons of water that is going into your tank other than counting the water jugs or bucket guessing

p.s. you can stack some flat stones infront of the filter all the way up to the top of the spillway to give a waterfall look, and help quite down the water spill sound

I have the brita chiller you are asking about and its brilliant but the only down side i can think of is that its quite large. I got mine from e bay not sure if i would want to pay over 100 pounds for the silver one like i have.
