I have horribel allergies and asthma. I'm looking for a permanant electrostatic filter for my furnace that you don't plug in, and has a carbon layer and a "pre-filter" layer.
I will probably catch some flack, but there is no permanent filter that can do this job. Electrostatic filters are charged by static and the amount of charge is not enough to plate particulate matter to the filter media. In effect when the blower shuts down, many of the particles settle to the bottom of the blower, to be recycled again and again. They also do nothing about gaseous material or germs that come from carpets, varnishes, pets, etc.
Check out the Micro Power Guard or Dyna Filter and consider a UV light installed in your duct system to control mold and odors.
easy cheap and effective
also which is the best way to clean a metal filter
Hi - If the fan ducts to outside then go for the metal filters, it's cheaper. If it just re-circulates in the air back into your kitchen then go for the carbon filter, this will remove some of the smells as well.
Metal filters wash out in hot water and washing-up liquid. Leave them to dry properly before re-fitting.
For a over the range microwave oven.
GAC or granular activated carbon will absorb at least 5 times more than plain charcoal.
You mean the filter which will remove all odours and color particles?
Go with activated charcoal type carbon filter with 200 micron size.
I just bought a fully submersible carbon-filter for my tropical aquarium. Where is the best place to position it? at the top of the tank, or the bottom?
I was think the bottom because thats where all the junk eventually lands up but wanted to ask before doing something stupid/ineffective.
it's best to have the outlet, where it spits out, near the top, all my filters are near the top, to allow for surface movement and oxygen exchange. the gunk on the bottom won't be "hoovered" up by the filter if you stick it near the bottom, that's what your weekly gravel vaccuum and partial water change will deal with.
Be Good to Your Car -- Choose Only the Best Oil Filter
Why is the oil filter important to your car? An oil filter doesn't seem that important. After all, it's not really expensive and it's such a small part. Don't let this fool you. This little gadget plays an important part in the health of your car and can lead to costly repairs if ignored.
If you're not sure how to choose an oil filter or even how often to have it changed, stick around for some important information.
Tips for choosing the best oil filterWhy is the oil filter important? The oil filter removes solid contaminants like dirt, carbon and metal particles from the oil before they cause damage to your bearings, journal and cylinder wall surfaces in the engine. If you don't change your oil filter in the recommended time, it becomes clogged and causes extensive damage to the engine. The price of a new engine? $4,000. The price of an oil filter? $6.00
Tip #1 -- Read your owner's manualThe owner's manual that came with your car will tell you whether your need to change your oil every 3,000 or 6,000 miles. If the manual recommends every 6,000 miles, you must buy a filter rated for that length of time. Don't spend money on expensive synthetic oil and then skimp on the filter. If the filter is rated for 3,000 miles and you continue driving for another 3,000 miles before changing it... get ready for engine damage.

Response to Various Opinions on Water Consumption
By
Bob McCauley
This is a response to some of the opinions put forth by others, regarding the source of water and which water we should drink. In particular, I am responding to those in the raw food movement. I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about water from various individuals and I find myself in profound disagreement with some of them.
I am a raw foodist who believes we all should ideally be on a 100% raw food diet. There are many opinions regarding which foods we should consume and in what quantities and I can see that these arguments will continue for some time without a conclusive agreement amongst raw food “experts”. But water is a different matter. There is water that should be consumed and water that should not be consumed except in emergencies. Let me clarify which is which.
