20BB Big Blue Sediment Water Filter O-Ring?
Hydraid Display

I have a 20BB Big Blue Sediment Water Filter in my home and the rubber O-ring that fits around the top of the canister is old and stretched a little, does anyone know where I could find one? I could always try and take it to home depot and find one that may work, but I'm hoping that someone might know exactly where to find the same o-ring online, I've searched and searched and haven't found it. Thanks for your help.

Go to any Mom & Pop hardware store, not the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowe's. Might try the link below, also.

my son has set up a fish & was told to put some crushed shells in the tank to raise ph now he has milky water?
Hydraid Display

how do we get rid of it. he put electic yellows & blue dolphons 4 each in a 145 litre tank water was okay till we put the crushed shells in has a small filter running & a air pump going he has ordered a bigger filter for his tank. fish still seem find though.any advise would be gratfull.thank you.

Don't worry, it's nothing that will harm the fish. Using crushed coral or shells or limestone is the right way to to keep the PH stable for fish like these- store bought chemicals is the wrong way to do it and unreliable. The only problem is that he probably didn't rinse them off first. The filter will will gradually remove some, the rest will eventually settle. For now doing partial water changes can help clear it up faster.

In the future though, don't add anything to the tank because 'you were told to' - there's a lot of bad advice out there (even though in this case the advice was sound) - so never use anything unless you know exactly why you are using it and what it will do. In most cases fish need nothing added except dechlorinator.

What pond idea is better for Rosy Red minnows/Several questions?
Back around a month ago I had 6 rosy red minnows which I poisoned to death on accident by adding too much colouring for ponds (makes the water blue and helps so that it doesn't heat too much) but this time I won't be doing that. I have four options if I get the rosy reds:

10 gallon aquarium w/ filter and lighting. I will be getting 5-7 rosy reds if in there.

Around a 20 gallon storage bucket for outside, no filter but will get frequent water changes and cleaning of sand/items 10-12 will be kept in there.

Around a 40 gallon big blue deep bucket which will have 15-22 rosy reds in them.

Or a 300-600 gallon kiddie pool pond which will be gotten for my 5 goldfish and then I'll get around 5 rosy reds for the pond, leaving me room for a shebumkin or two.

What is best and why? I will have hiding places: plastic milk cartons which will be changed every week to two weeks (whenever we go through a milk carton)

What are pros/cons of these?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Around January or before, depending on if I decide to get the pond before or after the Christmas holiday the 5 goldfish will be moving from a 29gal to a 300-600 gallon pond (whichever the best and biggest and deepest I can get for not a whole ton) I know right now it's severely overstocked so they'll be moving to a kiddie pool since dad is not allowing me to use the underground 40-50 gallon pond with no inhabitants in it because he doesn't want to run the filter anymore.
How many fish more can I add to the 300-600 gallon tank. How many rosy red minnows or shebumkins or goldfish? No fancies will be in it. Are shebumkins fancies or no? How many can I get leaving room for them to grow more? Can I get a koi or no? Do they grow even if in a smaller tank or do they stay the size they can? Would it be best to not even deal with kois?
Are shebumkins harder to take care of than goldfish and can they be kept with comets and commons? What's the difference other than their colours and fins? between shebumkins and the comets/commons?
Would it be best using my 29 gallon for my 4 serpae tetras and all the snails and adding 1 male betta to the tank and 2 other serpae tetras or should the 10 gallon be for the male betta? Should I just leave the 10 gallon as a spare for the betta if I need to?
If I don't what can I add to the tank that is hardy? 1 dwarf gourami?
I am really interested in bettas and dwarf gouramis. With the betta if it's in a 10 gallon would an underwater filter be better for them than an above water filter? I need to make the current not strong because people said it hurts the betta?
When 4 serpae tetras and a hell of a lot of mystery snails due to breeding what other fish could I add to the tank that are fairly cheap and hardy if I don't get a betta?
Can dwarf gouramis and bettas be kept together with tetras in the 29?
Are dwarf gouramis aggressive?
Sorry...lots of questions
no ones answered yet.....
If you really want koi just concentrate on koi don't have so much varieties which are not compatible. Just don't buy the imported jumbo kois which will grow very huge and need large space.
Parents won't let me get a bigger tank for my blue tang. Help? I need it, right?
Oranda goldfish
I have a 16 gallon fish tank aquarium, with two clown fish, about 1.5 inches/2inches, and one blue tang.
A months ago, when I got it, it was 1.5 in. Now it seems to be about 2.5 inches. I know they can grow to be 9-12 inches, and need at least a 75 gallon fish tank, but more preferably a 120 gallon. But I know, I most definitely can't get that one. So will a 75 gallon be alright for her and 2 clown fish? And how can I convince her to let me get the bigger one, as I want my fish the best they can be. I offered to pay for everything myself, except for a bigger filter, which she said, maybe. And my mom thinks they don't need that big of a tank because when "she was a little girl" she had a 55 gallon with 20 or so fish in it, about the size of a 2.5 inch blue tang. And she thinks she'll have to do the cleaning herself, but I'm going to clean everything myself, except she said she is going to take the fish out, as I don't want to hurt them. I have a gravel cleaner, special sponges to clean the inside, and I know I should change about 20% of the water every 2 weeks, or so.
and by the way, I'm 14, for anyone who wants to know. And I apologize that it is so long, I'm just really worried as I don't want my fish to get sick or hurt in such a small tank.
I do know, taht tehy get big, And everywhere I asked/read, it says they need atleast 75 gallons.
Yes, ideally you'd want a 125g tank (6' long). A 120g tank is only 4' long (same as a 75g or a 90g).
A 75g tank would be fine for the few fish you have for a few years. You can easily get away with those fish and have them healthy in a 75g.
If you're running a protein skimmer and have live rock in the tank, then there's no need for a larger filter. You don't even need any other filter if you have live rock and an appropriate size skimmer.
Please tell your mom that saltwater fishkeeping is nothing like it was when she was a kid growing up. Things have changed so much that we can keep sps corals, clams, invertebrates and a whole host of other animals alive that we couldn't keep alive just 20 years ago.
You are a very smart teenager to understand that your Hippo Tang is in the wrong tank. The thing is, it's in the wrong tank already. Not in six months from now, not a year from now, but today it's too big in your tank.
Check out the site below for excellent products and very reasonable prices. Hopefully this will help to encourage your mom to allow you to do the right thing.
Filter- Buzzing Noice?
oranda, ryukin, pearlscale
I just added water, filter, heater, and conditioner to my tank. ( water conditioner). I plugged in my filter and it made this buzzing noise. I read the instructions, but they are all in a different laungege. a when i first tured it on it make a big buzzing noise, but then about 5 sec. later, it gets quiter. But it still makes a buzzing noise. I have never had a filter before. Do filters always make this oise the first time they are turned on? My filter is from a friend. Brand new blue fuzzy thing.
i think it's merineland
All of my filters on my tanks make a buzzing noise when you first plug them in. Then you're supposed to pour a glass of water into the filter and it should stop making the buzz noise. It's making the noise because it is trying to suck water into it and by pouring a glass of water into the top of it, it helps it along with the process.
  • New Green Museum Allows Roof To Leak Water Like A River | Portable ...
    There is a new museum called the California Academy of Science that has just opened in The Golden Gate Park area in San Francisco. It has a rainforest display and an aquarium. While it is not the largest museum in the world, it is said to be calling itself the largest green museum in the world. It features many green innovations that make it more self sufficient and a lot better for the environment at the same time.
    One of the m ost unique features of this new museum is the rooftop. It has a lot going for it besides just a metal top or some shingles. It has solar panels that supplies at least ten percent of the energy that is required to power the museum. This might not seem like a lot, but as we all know, every little bit of energy that can be gotten for free is a big help. Solar panels are becoming more popular all the time and every time they are used some where, it means producing less energy from another source.
    Water Softeners amp; Filters: Big Blue Uncovered
    Lets say you get in from cutting your lawn and you go over and fill up a glass of water. Look inside the glass. Are there floaties? Yes? Well first - don't drink it. Second, you need to seriously consider filtration. If you have a large amount of sediment in your water supply, then Big Blue is for you. Big Blue cartridge filters are double the diameter of a standard cartridge which allows for maximum flow rate and sediment collection, making it possible to drink that glass of water. Oh and prevents your filter from getting clogged too quickly. This is where you should see the benefit - Big Blue makes it possible to filter sediment and not decrease your water flow.
