Hi I am setting up a fishroom and I was wondering if there is something I could use so I do not need to add dechlorinator to my water or let it sit, I want to be able to just turn the faucet on and have chrloine and chloramine free water. Is this possible?

A reverse osmosis unit will remove all of the chlorine and chloramines from your water, but it's not really what you are looking for I don't think. I have one and can tell you this about them: They are expensive, especially if you want many gallons per day.... yeah, gallons per DAY. Second, they are expensive to maintain. The membranes need to be replaced fairly often and they are not cheap. And most importantly, they remove not only what you want, but everything else from the water too. You get 0 hardness water with a pH of about 6.8. Cleaner than distilled and unsuitable for fish without being mixed with something else.

What you need is a under sink water purifier available at Walmart or home improvement stores. Get two, one for your cold water in your tank room and one to put in the water line before it goes to the hot water heater. You do have to maintain these filters as well, but it's not very expensive and you get chlorine free water on demand. I have them and use them in my tank room for exactly the same purpose, works great.

Last week there was a notice that there's high levels of chlorine in our water from the water company dumping more in there. If you get a glass and put water from the tap in, it literally smells like a pool. I don't want to drink pool water, and it's hard to cook with bottled water.

Basically, is there a good filter for the tap out there that filters out some chlorine? I know some is good for the water, but I'd prefer less than there is now.

i think mine is no longer in good working order.

Aquasana recommends every 6 months, but thats for an average family size.I ve also tried the Vitashower but it seems to smell funny.

My brother and i are collecting the periodic table of elements (aside from the radioactive ones) and i was planning on extracting chlorine gas from pool tablets and capturing it. if i do this outside and use a gas mask with the (surplus) army standard NATO filter how long would it last?

You won't need a gas mask if you do it outside. If you put bleach in the toilet and then use it you get loads of chlorine given off and that doesnt hurt you.

The only way chlorine would really hurt you is if you were in a sealed room which was full of it.

Fluorine is the one which can kill you in small doses chlorine wont.
