i have been told that chlorine and other things that are in shower water could be the cause of my acne. if u have used a shower filter and ur skin has cleared plz let me know the brand of filter u used or if you have any other information on the subject that could help. thanks in advance

Acne happens due to various reasons....but i never heard its coz of chlorine that are in water...!!! Everyone bath in that same water and i dont see "every single" people have acne...



I think the cause of ur acne is different...... Main cause of acne are:

Bacteria that normally live on the skin also play a role in acne development. The bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes are responsible for causing acne. These bacteria produce substances that cause redness and irritation (inflammation).

Certain hormones called androgens are an additional factor in causing acne. Androgens are male hormones that are present in both men and women, but are higher in men. Androgens do two things: First, they enlarge the sebaceous glands in the skin. Second, they cause these glands to increase sebum (oil) production.

We also now believe that acne can run in some families. This may be due to some genetic factor that has not yet been discovered.

Anatomy of the hair follicle: Hair follicles exist on virtually all skin except for the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Inside the follicle, the hair extends up from the deep layers of the skin and comes out of a pore. Near the surface, the oil gland (sebaceous gland) enters the hair follicle where it empties oil (sebum) at a relatively constant rate. The sebum lubricates the skin and provides a protective barrier to prevent drying. Skin on the face, chest, and back has an especially large number of sebaceous glands. These are the areas where acne occurs.

and few others too... like if u dont wash ur skin everyday, dont change ur pillow covers etc



its best if u seek medical care.. doctor will be able to help you and prescribe some medicines..

Get rid of chlorine and chloramine in your shower. The only way to get rid of both chlorine and chloramine is using catalytic granular charcoal ...

I don't need it to filter out anything fancy, no big list of things like heavy metals etc. I
I don't really care I just think I might have a sensitivity to chlorine and want a filter which is removable.
Maybe some sort of filter which can be moved from the shower to the tap? Is that possible?

I travel a lot and also share an appartment when i'm not travelling.
The others are not interested in a filter in any way and wouldn't help with the cost. Also they like the shower as it is so I can't tamper with it, as in changing the head, flow etc.
It is a power shower. Please don't tell me to change roomates because it isn't that big a deal. In fact I like the existing shower head and don't want to change it either. Obviously I can't change the shower when I travel either.

So I'm just looking for a suitable filter. Do you think one exists? Thanks.

I am in Baghdad Iraq and the water that we use has so much chlorine in it that many folks are losing hair and or their hair is breaking. I have used a shower filter but it doesn't last the 6 months it is supposed to and only lasts about 5 weeks. Does anyone know of a seriously good shower filter that would help save my hair?

Culligan makes a great shower filter. Culligan pretty much leads the industry for water filters. I get my regular water filters from Fresh Water Systems. I don't have a shower filter but if I was looking for one I would probably check there first. You can do a search online too and find a bunch. Go with a name brand like Culligan or Rainshower. Aquasana recommends every 6 months, but thats for an average family size.I ve also tried the Vitashower but it seems to smell funny.
