We live out in the country and have well water that tastes pretty awful. Will the Pur water filter work for us?

it will help filter, but not soften... so it will removes some of the larger particles and such... but will likely only last a short period of time before having to be replaced constantly because of so much sediment being put through it.

you really need a well water softening system, which in the long run will likely be less expenesive, since you won't be burning through replacement cartridges ever few days

I have a PUR water dispenser and only use it when I run out of bottled water. I live in an area that uses well water and the quality is poor. The filter in it is the same one from three years ago. I've never changed it b/c the replacement indicator says that it is still good. However, I have an upset stomach today after drinking the water from the dispenser yesterday.

3 years is a long time and bacteria may have formed in the filter or the well water is so bad that the filter can't filter everything including bacteria that may be in the well water. If you suspect this - you need to have your water tested. Throw out the filter and stick to bottled water until you know for sure.

I've got a bad habit of opening a bottle of water, drinking less than half and leaving it somewhere, then forgetting about it and opening a new one.

I understand after a couple days (especially if left uncapped) this is an all-inclusive party for bacteria growth.

Rather than throwing these half-consumed bottles of water, would an effective treatment be to run them through my PUR or Brita Water pitcher in the fridge?

you could boil the water if you were that fearful....

I am sick of the taste of tap water and I bought a pur water filtration system and though it definitely looks more clearer, though I still get a little of that tap water taste... has anyone found one that works very well and yields water that doesn't have a weird taste?

I use the Pur water filter that has a flavor cartridge in it, you can flavor the water (sugar and calorie free) with raspberry or lemon. That helps take the edge off.

You may have very hard water to start with, or problem with your water pipes that may be causing the problem.

If a water pitcher type system doesn't work well enough - you may have to go to a system that is mounted under the sink and uses a much larger filter. They even have whole-house filters that need to be installed by a plumber but are very effective.

Another thing you might try with your existing water filter - is to filter it twice. Add water to your filter and when it is done dripping - pout it into a clean container and then back into the top of the filter to go through the process again.

It can't hurt and it won't cost you anything to try it.

The timing of the fruit flies coincides with the arrival of fruit flies. PUR's Flavor Options has a raspberry flavored liquid stored in the system that attaches to your faucet. You press on a button to have flavored juice come out, then add water. I've already tried clear jars using rotting bananas as bait. The jars were secured tightly with plastic wrap and had holes using sharp pencil tip. I had NO LUCK with that method. They hang around the sink drain and fly around the kitchen. Driving me crazy! Any other methods someone can suggest would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone else has this PUR Flavor Options, have you had any fruit fly problems?

To get rid of fruit flies you need to have a clean area. No food or crumbs around.
