I am asking mainly to see if there is a three stage filter instead of Brita's 2 stage "on tap" filter.
Pur and Brita filters aren't compatible. If you want a 3 stage, you'll have to get a Pur filter.

I drink tap water, so I was thinking of getting one of those water filter jugs. You pour the tap water into it and put it in the fridge. The water percolates through the filter. If my municipal water isn't particularly bad, what is the benefit?
Most public water systems are already filtered and treated for you. Some of them still have a funky taste though due to pipes, chemicals, or other outside influences. If you think that your tap water tastes funky, then a filter might do the trick. Though a water filter may not be necessary, it could provide a peace of mind knowing that your water is filtered at least twice :-)
Just remember that you will have to constantly buy filters every few months, so work that into your budget if it is something you are going to do.
Hope this helps!

"Would you mind helping me to make a home made but reliable water purifying system.,and should be economical as well?.."...
Thanks in advance for every body.
buy a PUR water filter it will take out 2 tyrs of germs that make you sick, brita wont,
I think that one should be able to make a simple water filteration system using bottles/buckets, sand, gravel charcoal, etc. to make reasonably clean tap water safer and tastier.Although I found some, I could not find the information that I thought would be readily available on the internet. Any suggestions?

Here is a simple plan, but I too would recommend purchasing a system myself.

Here is a much more complex DIY method.
Personally if I had the money I would buy a Big Berkey system, by far the best!

However, if that soesn't fit into your current budger I would personal recommend get a product made by PUR. I've had both PUR and Brita in the past and PUR is by far the superior product.
With a Brita filter, there is a small "guide" that tells you when you should change the filter, but it tracks it by time in use and not by how much you've used it.
Where as PUR filter literally tell you when it's time to change the filter. There is a small "button" that moves a bit after each use. So if I fill it three times a day or once a day, it will move a bit each time there is water run through it and when it's at the end, I know it's time to change the filter.
Where as the Brita filter just tells me after 8 weeks that it's time to switch the filter not taking into consideration how much the filter was used. Likewise, the water just pours right through the Britai filter, where as the PUR filter actually takes a solid 10 minutes to filter the water giving me a sense that it's actually being filtered, instead of just quickly run through a Brita fileter.
godd luck!

The Top 10 Benefits of Home Filtration of Tap Water
10. When you drink filtered water, you are protected from the dangers of all the unknown chemicals in tap water. Many of the contaminants found in tap water such as prescription drugs have not been studied sufficiently to understand their long-term effects but the results of preliminary studies are alarming to say the least. It is especially important for children to drink clean water since their bodies are less capable of detoxifying. In conclusion, the benefits of home filtration of tap water are endless and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Carbon block or granular home water filters are convenient, effective, and affordable so there is no excuse not to have one in your home. Drinking tap water is simply a huge health risk so if you want to stay healthy and vibrant for years to come, investing in a carbon home water filter is the way to go.
EnviroMom: How do you filter your tap water?
I have a love/hate relationship with my Brita pitcher. I've been using one since forever. I don't even remember why I started. Probably a roommate/flatmate had one at one point in my life, and then it just became the norm. Now that I do really adult things like read the municipal water quality report, I'm glad we filter the water and that we drink tap. But maybe a new water pitcher might just be the ticket?
Here's what I like about the Brita:
Filters are easy to change Filters are easy to get (The last time I bought a case of them right before we discontinued our Costco membership and I'm pretty sure it will hold us until my kids go off to college. OK. Maybe not that long.) Some places will actually recycle Brita filters (but so far, no where near me, and mailing them is also...
