"a fire cistern". I'm not sure that I'm correct .
Help me out plz! Thanks in advance.
The houses in my 100-year-old neighborhood have cisterns. I suppose they may have been needed for firefighting back in the days before fire hydrants existed.
The gutters drain rainwater into the cisterns, maintaining them full of water most of the time. Nowadays, we can use the water on the lawn during dry summer days.
This movie shows how to make an underground cistern in very sandy soil. All movies are available in full length at vimeo.com More info at www.emas ...
I'm looking at a piece of property that lacks the space for both a septic system and a well. It is rumoured that city water lines will be run to the property within 10 years, but in the meantime, are there any practical, cost-effective alternatives to well water? I was thinking about water storage tanks for domestic use and rainwater collection cisterns for greywater usage. Would having potable water delivered to the tanks via tanker truck be cost-prohibative? Has anyone out there put some sort of alternative system in place?
sounds like yu have looked at all the options
what effect would shortage of water on the planet, i.e. water stored in toilet cisterns..storage tanks..water boilers, car rads etc bottled water..anything that stores water for a time, therefore not releasing it to evaporate.Ponder this from your own home then extrapolate to global..hhhmmmmm????
there would always be water even if it sweats out of us.
we drink the bottled water >> comes out through the breath and as sweat
water comes out of the car exhaust also
water evaporating from all the heat? forming clouds? maybe maybe not
the water cannot excape our system so no prob.
actaully, water vapour is the biggest ghg
bigger than co2 so who really who's what could happen
i believe that all that bullshit that scientists say probably is wrong and we think that it is the fault of global warming.
Please remember that the main reasons for soil erosion, salination, floods, droughts, famines, the collapse of coral reefs and the extinction of species are habitat destruction, overgrazing and over-fishing -- not a 0.9% rise in trapped radiance
I have read that applying and then removing a small amount of washing up liquid can help.
Can anybody verify this or suggest another method?
As I have recently renovated my bathroom, I do not want to add a vent, line the cistern, add a mixer valve, feed from the cold water storage tank, etc.
Condensation will form where warm moist air meets a cold surface. A thin film of washing-up liquid reduces the surface tension of the condensation so preventing it forming droplets. It's still there but it is spread out.
If you recently renovated your bathroom in accordance with UK building regulations, you already have a vent in there, though that will only help reduce, not prevent condensation.
The only ways to STOP it would be to stop releasing water vapour in the bathroom (impossible if you are using it) or fill the toilet cistern with warm water - a complete waste of expensive energy - or isolate
the cistern from the atmosphere in the room (eg built-in cistern or insulated).
The answer is probably to live with the condensation and wipe it off from time to time.
