hi can anyone solve a problem with hot water storage tank ?
It's all sky

I have hot water storage tank which is fully lagged but when I have a full tank of hot water at midnight it is only lukewarm at 8.00 am the following morning. surely a fully lagged tank should hold longer than this. Anyone got any ideas?

USA Maybe breaks in the lagging. Gaps in insulation are sources of heat loss. Maybe not a sufficient R Value of lagging. Are there any leaks which would cause cold water to be added to the tank? Is there any usage late at night?

What are the advantages and drawbacks to a tankless hot water heater over a typical hot water storage tank?
Perlan

We currently have a coil that heats our water...and we take short showers and the kids get half a bath. We were considering adding a tankless hot water heater such as "instant hot" to our gas or a water tank like "super stor ultra" to our oil burner. I'm wondering if a product like instant hot will really give an endless hot shower and fill the tub too. I'd appreciate feedback/experience with this.

I don't think instant hot is the best answer. I'm not sure that will supply the quantity you need. Tankless water heaters can do the job, though. They're like the Bosch AquaStar series. They totally replace your water heater. You can split your water service off to two lines and have two tankless water heaters, if you want. These draw a lot of gas and might require increasing the size of your gas service. A major advantage, though, is that they don't store hot water, so they don't waste gas keeping a large amount of water hot all day and all night.

Also...look for the ones that meet the level of efficiency required for a tax credit. I believe the credit is $300. That's not just an income deduction...it's actually a credit. The Bosch AquaStar at the link below doesn't meet the efficiency requirements, but I got one at Home Depot for under $400, so I decided against trying for the tax credit.

Rheem Commercial Hot Water Storage Tank, 120 Gallon
Rheem

Price: $2,448.00 $1,550.78

Space saving design ? unlike other storage tanks the ST120 can pass through a 30" opening
TP valve ? must be ordered separately based on water heater
Efficiency ? these models meet or exceed thermal efficiency and standby loss requirements of current ASHRAE standards.

My hot water storage tank is leaking, but I'm going on vacation. Can I shut off the supply until I come back?

The tank needs replaced. I've been aware of this for a couple of months, but now it is leaking hot water. The question is, can I shut off the supply to the tank and just let it drain, then replace it when I get back next week? Should I also shut down the boiler? Since I won't be home, and it's summer, there will be no call for heat or hot water. Is there any risk to shutting down the boiler for a week?

Shut it all down seeing how you wont be there..also keep in mind any type of appliance like an ice maker in a fridge, or anything depending on water..turn off also, for lack of water in them and them running will ruin them..make sure any electrc to the heater or gas is shut off as well

how much does a hot water storage tank cost?

It depends on the type and size. You should be budgeting betwen £80 and £120 for the cylinder. Would not suggest you try fitting it yourself.

I've just fitted a jacket to my hot water tank, how much will I save on gas?

My hot water storage tank is in the loft and although it had a hard foam covering I am sure it was losing heat. Immediately after putting the jacket over it I noticed the loft space begin to chill so it must be having some effect. Does anyone know how much I might save on gas heating the water up? I paid £11.50 for the jacket and it would be fun to know when it will have paid for itself!

Insulate Your Water Heater Tank for Energy Savings
Unless your water heater's storage tank already has a high R-value of insulation (at least R-24), adding insulation to it can reduce standby heat losses by 25%–45%. This will save you around 4%–9% in water heating costs.

If you don't know your water heater tank's R-value, touch it. A tank that's warm to the touch needs additional insulation.

Insulating your storage water heater tank is fairly simple and inexpensive, and it will pay for itself in about a year. You can find pre-cut jackets or blankets available from around $10–$20. Choose one with an insulating value of at least R-8. Some utilities sell them at low prices, offer rebates, and even install them at a low or no cost.

Choosing A Water Heating System | Real Estate Information

Purchasing a water heating system can be difficult, particularly as you have a wide range of factors to take into consideration. Generally, most people choose a gas or electric heater, depending on the fuel source prevalent in their area. It is a personal choice, and one that should be based on whichever system is best suited to your needs. The financial costs should also be weighed against the over-all benefits. The type of fuel you will be using will be an important factor when deciding what unit to choose. For example, purchasing an electric heater will be more suitable if you are used to using this type of fuel. It will all be dependant on your personal needs and wishes.

There are a whole host of other issues that will also need to be considered. For instance, if you have long term plans to reside in your property, you should purchase your water heater with that in mind. You need to think of purchasing a water heater as an investment, and one that will suit you for many years to come. The following points should be considered:
