Larve in house plant water vases?
LEGS CROSSED

I have plants in my home that I keep in water. They're gorgeous and I can't change them to dirt without worrying that they'll die. My problem is that I noticed that now I have larve in their water. How can I kill the larve in the water without killing my plants? What can I use? I don't want my house filled with mosquitos and flies.

No Salt it will kill your plants.
Rinse the plants in room temp water not cold, until you are sure there are no more larvae on the plants.
Mix one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide 3% the kind that we keep in the bathroom cabinet, with one gallon of water stir and pour into containers that hold your plants. Make a new batch every time to ensure freshness.
Change the water at least once a month, I use this method.
It will keep your plants healthy and pest free.

How do I know how often to water my house plant?
PLANT

I have a large floor house plant that was given to us at my husband's grandmother's funeral a few months back. It's beautiful and I love it. However, I accidently gave it root rot (I guess, that's what people on here described it as....) so I replanted it with new soil about 6 weeks ago. It seems to be doing OK, although some of the leaves are turning yellow. How the heck do I know how much and how often I need to water this plant?

The yellowing leaves may be from the transplant, but it could be from over watering too.
You shouldn't water your plant more than once a week, but how much depends on what kind of plant you have. My larger plants I take to the sink and water, some of my floor plants have trays under to catch the water, but never let a plant sit in water. If you water a plant and it doesn't absorb the water in about 30 minutes pour out the excess. It is always better to let a plant dry out than to over water.
Here is more information about water plants.
Good luck

Over watering is one of the greatest killers of house plants. The most common questions home gardeners ask is, "How often should I water my houseplants?" There is no absolute answer to this question. It is impossible to set a time schedule for watering plants. The frequency of watering depends on many factors such as type and size of plant, temperature and humidity within the home, weather conditions and season of the year.

Don’t automatically water all your houseplants on a schedule. Check to see if the soil about 1" below the surface is dry, before you water. When you do water, water thoroughly. Water until you see the water coming out the bottom drainage holes. This procedure will help brown thumbs who underwater as well as those who water too frequently.

Don't let your plants sit in water either. If you increase the humidity around your houseplants by placing them on a tray of pebbles sitting in water, make sure the water level is below the bottom of the pot.

If will also help if you use a light potting soil instead of garden soil, which tends to be heavy and doesn't allow water to drain through.

Does placing my house plant in water stimulate root growth?
lavaplants+watering

I have a peace lilly and it is seemingly dying. I took it out of the pot and its roots were in terrible shape. i cut off the rotten roots and put the plant in water is that good? and will it help stimulate root growth or do I need to throw it away?

Yes put the plant in water and leave it in the sunlight. new root will start to grow out. then once there is sufficient amount of root, plant it in a small pot. Not too big because it needs to get the water efficiently, then after a while put it in a bigger pot. Always water it with warm water when its potted. If you use cold water, you will shock the roots.

How long can a house plant last without water?
A Big Boat and House

I am going on vacation for a week and have no one to water the plant! Will it last? Its a clovery plant but with three leaves rather than four.
Its not a posionous plant I know that. I don't know if this would help identify it but the underside of the leaves are purple.

A week won't kill it.But if you want to be clever, get a small plastic bottle.Fill with water, and reverse the bottle into the plant soil.the plant will take moisture from the slowly leaking bottle. Then you can relax and enjoy yourself.

We all know that not everyone is born with the magical green thumb. Some people seem to just have the touch and ideas to keep a garden looking beautiful throughout all of the seasons, or maybe they just know how to take good care of indoor house plants. On the other hand, we also know those who seem to be able to just look at a plant and kill it. That’s right; those people with the dreaded green thumb who could probably kill a vase of plastic flowers.

Some with the dreaded black thumb give up easily on planting, while others still have the urge to fill the corner with a [living] plant, but can’t. In any case, thankfully, there are flowers and plants available that are more on the “hardy” side. So, no matter if your thumb is black, here are ten plants that are perfect for those without a green thumb. Now, if you kill one of these plants, you’re really out of luck!

Creating a garden with container planting

A very attractive display can be made by planting a group of plants in a single pot.  This style of planting looks fabulous at a doorway or entrance as it forms a focal point and a sense of welcome to visitor’s friends and family.  Use large plants and containers where you would like to make a statement or an impact.  Both the pot and the contents are the feature and should enhance each other in shape and colour.  Your final choice for the planting comes down to personal choice, so the effect suits your dwelling and its surrounds.

You may want to ask for advice from your local nurseryman about containers and which plants look visually appealing in a mass planting, or group planting.  Usually in this form of planting foliage plants are grown with flowers to really make a bold statement, so do your research.
